The Capristo Sports Exhaust for the Ferrari F355 is widely regarded as one of the finest exhaust systems available for Ferrari’s iconic V8.

Capristo has refined its F355 exhaust offering to create a single, highly developed system that combines the most desirable characteristics of its previous Sound 1, 2 and 3 configurations. The result is an exhaust that offers a refined character at lower engine speeds, combined with the unmistakable high-revving Ferrari soundtrack when the valves open.

The system is designed to deliver an improvement in both sound and performance, while also addressing the significant heat management issues associated with the original F355 exhaust system.

Sound

With the exhaust valves closed, below approximately 4,000 rpm, the Capristo produces a deeper and sportier sound than the original Ferrari system without becoming intrusive. This makes it well suited to normal road use and longer journeys.

As the revs rise and the valves open, the character changes dramatically. The F355’s distinctive flat-plane V8 comes alive with the high-pitched, aggressive howl that Capristo exhaust systems are renowned for, producing the unmistakable Ferrari soundtrack at higher engine speeds.

Engineering

Manufactured from high-grade T309 stainless steel, the Capristo system is considerably lighter than the original Ferrari exhaust and is built to exceptionally high standards.

The system incorporates double-skinned construction and carefully engineered exhaust gas flow to improve thermal management and reduce heat retention within the engine bay. This is particularly important on the F355, where excessive exhaust temperatures can contribute to failures of the original exhaust manifolds.

Capristo’s design also reduces back pressure, allowing the engine to breathe more efficiently. Depending on the specification and condition of the individual car, an increase in power of around 18 bhp can be achieved, together with improved throttle response, particularly towards the top end of the rev range.

Each exhaust is TIG-welded and finished by hand at Capristo’s facility in Sundern, Germany, with the polished stainless-steel construction giving the system the appearance and quality expected from a premium Ferrari component.

Header Protection

One of the most important aspects of the Capristo F355 system is its approach to exhaust gas flow and heat management.

The original F355 exhaust arrangement can create significant heat and thermal stress within the engine bay, contributing to the well-known exhaust manifold issues associated with these cars.

Capristo’s patented design separates the exhaust flow into two circuits. With the bypass valve open, exhaust gases are directed through the inner tailpipes while the outer pipes draw in cooler air. This helps to reduce temperatures and thermal stress within the exhaust system and engine bay, providing an important advantage over the original design.

Valve Control

For owners who want greater control over the character of the exhaust, Capristo also offers a Valve Bypass & Remote Control kit.

This allows the driver to override the factory valve operation and open the exhaust valves manually using a remote control. It also allows the valves to be opened at lower engine speeds, giving the F355 a more pronounced and sporting exhaust note when desired.

Compatibility

The Capristo F355 Sports Exhaust is suitable for both 2.7 and 5.2 Motronic cars, including the Berlinetta, GTS and Spider.

The system is designed as a direct replacement using the original mounting points and can operate with the factory exhaust valve system. The Capristo remote control can be added for owners who want manual control of the exhaust valves.

The system is ECE approved and designed for road use.
