The Ferrari 348 GTS, introduced in 1993, represented the final and most refined open-top evolution of the 348 series. Based mechanically on the 348 GTB, the GTS delivered the same performance and handling, while offering the versatility of open-air motoring via a removable targa-style roof panel—a layout that had by then become a hallmark of Ferrari’s mid-engined V8 lineup.
Retaining the steel monocoque chassis with a tubular rear subframe, the GTS maintained Ferrari’s proven structural layout for mid-engined cars, allowing easy access to the longitudinally-mounted 3.4-litre V8 and rear suspension assembly. Power output remained at 320 hp, with a 0–60 mph time of just under 6 seconds, delivered through a 5-speed gated manual gearbox.
The suspension system continued the proven Ferrari formula of the era: independent unequal-length wishbones at both front and rear, paired with coil-over gas-filled telescopic dampers and anti-roll bars for well-balanced, confidence-inspiring dynamics. Steering was unassisted rack-and-pinion, offering precise, analog feedback, and the car was equipped with ventilated disc brakes and ATE anti-skid (ABS) for improved stopping performance under varied conditions.
Inside, the 348 GTS offered a minimalist yet driver-focused cockpit, with the removable targa roof panel stowing neatly behind the seats when not in use—just like its predecessor, the 348 TS. This design allowed the car to blend the stability of a coupe with the freedom of a convertible, making it one of the most desirable variants for enthusiasts seeking both performance and open-top driving.
Only 1,146 examples of the 348 GTS were produced between 1993 and 1994, making it a relatively rare model in the 348 lineup. As one of the last Ferraris developed before the brand’s full embrace of electronic driver aids and modern styling under the 355 generation, the 348 GTS is often celebrated for its raw, analog charm—and its ability to deliver an unfiltered Ferrari driving experience in classic targa-top form.
